Fotos On Foot provide photographic teaching tours and courses with a qualified tutor and local photographer, around the unique and beautiful city of Brighton & Hove.  A walk with a difference; this will provide advice to help you compose better images, understand a camera’s creative controls, use available light and more…

Laura Dodson is an established photographer and has taught Creative Photography at the Friends Centre in Brighton and Portslade Community College, Portslade. For more information on wedding, portrait and commerical services see www.lauradodson.com

A Fotos on Foot tour/walk is designed for those who don’t have time for long courses, or if you’d like a taster session. Starting in January 2011 are regular Saturday workshops . These will be a full day (11am-4pm) and will be an extended tour with a little 'classroom' time as well. Learning-on-the-go is much more fun than hours in an adult education college or reading a photography techniques book...

This unique combination of sightseeing and learning about your camera makes a great activity for visitors who would like to improve their photography skills and take away some useful knowledge whilst making the holiday snaps the best they’ve ever taken!

"Brilliant tour, great value for money; anyone who takes photos would enjoy and learn loads from spending a couple of hours with Laura" Mike

When? Please see the 'Book Now' tab to see our current schedule. We run all year round in all weather. Different times of the day are available on request - eg, evenings tours for sunset and night photography or at your convenience when possible. Night photography is a good choice for conference or corporate visitors and these usually produce some dramatic images of Brighton's bright lights and distinctive seafront. Larger groups can choose alternative days and times as required.

Where? Summer: meet at the café in the gardens of the Royal Pavilion. Winter: meeting place is Radisson Blu Hotel (formerly Royal York Hotel) on Old Steine near Pool Valley Coach Station. How to find it? See Map. How to recognise me? See Picture.

What? These classes are for improving your photography and camera skills. Routes and venues change according to weather and other events happening in the area. Popular routes for example include around Pavilion gardens, Palace Pier, Hove seafront and the North Laines.

How much? £35 per person for a two hour tour. £70 for one day workshops.

Who? Min 2 people, max 6.  Bigger classes for hen/stag parties, corporate teams, family groups etc are available by prior arrangement.

More? Please contact me for details on 'expert' tours (infrared/portraits/creative exposure/night photography etc) and regular courses, summer schools and weekend courses.

More Info

We will start with introductions and a quick review of camera controls and functions. If there is something you specifically would like to cover, please ask. As we continue with the walk, we will explore how to improve composition and using available light. Handouts containing written information will be available via email after the tour for future reference. This is a wheelchair accessible activity.

What to bring:

Your camera! Any type is fine, compact, SLR, digital or film. Please bring any other equipment you may wish to use, eg lenses, flashgun etc. A spare battery and memory card/film is also useful. Bring a packed lunch for the day workhops.
Wear weather-appropriate clothing, eg warm jacket, sunhat and sun cream, and wear comfortable shoes (with a grip for wet weather). A tripod is essential for sunset and night photography - this can be provided if you don't have one.

"Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the lesson. Will be back!" Emma
"A chance to improve and practice composition and learn about some of the hidden features of my new digital SLR." Julius
